Abstract

Through nano-science and molecular biology, we are learning about how natural systems, organisms and materials behave, and nano-technology and bio-technology give us the tool not only to intervene in those systems, but to create new ones based on their capabilities.

Nature offers endless lessons that could be applied to future products, processes and materials. Nature does not waste, and through bio-mimicry we learn to model our own systems with the efficiency, beauty and economy of natural systems.

Bio-mimicry is a new discipline that studies nature’s best ideas and then adapts these designs and processes to solve human problems. Waste decomposition is one of the big problems for human beings. Through bio-mimicry we can learn how nature decomposes its waste and uses in future for its growth without making any harm to their surroundings and fellow creatures.

Like every other creatures, humans cause a lot of commotion in the biosphere: creating, moving and consuming. But our species is the only one that creates more waste than nature can safely and efficiently recycle. Ours is the only one that ignores ecological balance, exceeds the carrying capacity of the land, and consumes more energy than nature can provide.

Now in front of us there is a very big question: “How can we live on this home planet without destroying it?” And I think we can answer this only through biomimicry.
